Welcome to the Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics at the University of Innsbruck

The tasks of the Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics are to perform research in atmospheric sciences and glaciology and to offer basic and post-graduate university level education in meteorology and geophysics.

Our research and teaching activities cover a wide range of topics

• mass balance and heat balance of glaciers (e. g. Hintereisferner and Kesselwandferner, Ötztal Alps, Austria)
• surveying of glaciers and glacier hydrology
• meteorology in Arctic and Antarctic regions
• mesoscale flow over, around and through mountains, particularly foehn
• atmospheric dynamics and weather forecast
• remote sensing in hydrology and glaciology
• application for radar interferometry
